25 years of reunited Germany

In May of 2015 a formidable exhibit, titled “25 Years since Reunification – Berlin Wall” is opened at the Potsdamer Platz Arkaden. The dramatic events during the border opening, the subsequent upheaval and the formation of a new European order are illuminated. This is the starting shot for a massive reconstruction effort of East German cities and infrastructure.

The signing of the reunification treaty eventually triggers the withdrawal of all allied troops.

The Show presented original objects from the Berlin Wall-period and also scenic panoramas. The old situation was simulated as the pedestrian bridges of the mall were converted to serve as typical observation points for border guards and their opposing Western soldiers all suspiciously looking down at citizen passing by, but also at each other. The original tower from the Erna-Berger-Strasse was copied by a haunting stage version as part of the Arkaden-display. Movies preserved by UNESCO collections rendered a convincing historical survey from the beginning to the end of the Wall.#
