“One the phone you say diddly-squat!”

In the beginning of 2016 the artist group ÜB3R is installing computers in the canopy and from the eight gun ports telephone receivers are dangling down to the pedestrian level. Listeners picking them up will be witnesses to banal and personal conversations that were all intercepted and recorded by the STASI. We owe thanks to the BStU for supplying the recordings from their historical archives.

Despite inclement weather, the installation is a resounding success. It is a live example how surveillance entered the most private, personal activities of every citizen during the cold war.
